He sleeps great at night but naps are really killing me. He's taking so many small catnaps all day long. I always put him down for a nap about 1 hr and 45 min - 2hrs after he wakes up.

He is 3 and a half months old. Are these short naps normal for his age? Ah I am going through the same thing with my little guy, he turned 3 months last week.

I am finding it so hard to keep him on any schedule because he really only catnaps.. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Looking forward to a response to this as well. These short naps are typical, as an entire sleep cycle lasts that long the first 20 minutes of light sleep and the last 20 minutes of a deeper sleep.

Once they come out of that sleep cycle their body often jolts and they may wake if they are unable to get back into the sleep cycle. Swaddling may help with this.

You mentioned that he is awake for 2 hours before you put him back to sleep. It may be possible that your LO is OT and that amount of activity time is too much for him. Does that mean then you are on a 4-hour EASY routine.

My LO is three and a half months. Night time sleep is good, we've even had some sleep throughs she is EBF , but naps are becoming shorter and shorter.

I guess I let it happen for a week or so as she was waking up happy at 45minutes at first but now she often wakes up nearer 30 minutes. I've tried a few things. At the moment, W2S has not been successful.

Have tried it at various times, but it seems to disturb her and she wakes. For the first nap of the day I am resettling, mostly with success, but for later naps we are often out and about, so am hoping if I can get her sleeping 1.

Eat, 2hrs awake and then 1hr 30mins sleep and back to feed again, but if I only get the 45min nap for naps 2 and 3, timing bedtime is tricky.

Mama- Please let me tell you this: you are not a failure, and you are not alone. Your sweet little one is a baby NOT a clock. Did you notice that each and every nap in the above schedule was exactly two hours long?

Yes, this is absolutely normal! So, what in the world are parents supposed to do in the meantime? So…work on your baby putting himself to sleep at bedtime and consolidating nighttime sleep first.

If you took the online newborn sleep class , please revisit tips 5 and 7. These tips will also help you get longer stretches of night sleep. Be sure to offer feedings every hours according to his hunger cues.

Did you catch that? You cannot force an infant to fall asleep or stick to a perfect schedule. She offered naps. Sometimes they were long. Sometimes they were short. Did you also notice that t here were times when she picked up the baby and attempted to stretch that nap longer by snuggling, rocking, or baby-wearing?

Feel free to try this! If he does, great. Here is another sample. Notice that this mom is using the same principles: offer feedings every hours according to hunger cues, break up eating and sleeping when possible, and offer a nap after minutes of awake time.

Growth spurts, brain development, and all of the important things your baby is doing on the inside keeps her from showing consistency on the outside. Just keep implementing the tips learned in the newborn class.

You are laying the foundation, and that practice is more important than a perfect schedule each day! If your baby is between weeks, we have help for you as well! The information applies far beyond that 12 week mark.

New Mama, I hope this blog sets your mind at ease. You got this! My passion is teaching parents how to help their babies sleep with the science of a nurse and the heart of a mama so they can reclaim the joy of parenthood.

DD2 is 4. Also, that was the point that we had to be at home for naps in the crib. I could no longer count on her sleeping while out and about. Personally, I think an A time of 2 hours is a little much for most 3.

I want to join this thread too! My Lo is 12 weeks and only sleeps exactly 40 mins and extending naps hasnt worked so far. It is messing up my EASY! I only let my LO stay awake about an hour before she goes back down again.

It still makes it hard to figure out a 3 hour EASY and when to feed etc. Looking forward to reading the responses!

Wow, I am going through the exact same thing with my LO and he is just about 3. This must be a fairly common thing with this age group?!

I swaddle him when he sleeps, and if I try and pick him up when he first starts to wake, he wakes immediately! I thought maybe trying to pick him up when he was first showing signs of waking after 30 o 40 mins and rocking him would help him to sleep longer How do we get our LOs to sleep longer?!

Or will he just naturally move to a longer nap as he gets older. He's pretty much on a routine of awake time of an hour and a half and sleep for 30 to 40 mins, then awake for an hour and a half, etc.

Will this just naturally change? Just listening in too as our 3. I have no advice to offer, only to say that this seems to be a really common problem, and if anyone has the remedy it would be much appreciaited.

- спросила Николь.
