They all do now. Worth also pointing out that PDF started as a proprietary Adobe format, and you had to pay to even be able to read the files. They only open-sourced it because no one was using it because of that reason.

It is not and has never been proprietary. One of the reason the industry moved to mp4 audio AAC. The industry adopted Apples original QuickTime format to settle on the mp4 container, which is basically a QuickTime container.
